Making a Spider Head and Legs out of Foam

FULL STREAM | PART 2: GIANT WEB-SHOOTING SPIDER

Last week, we completed the frame for our DIY giant Halloween spider using PVC pipe and fittings as well as prototyped some options for articulating legs. This stream promises to be the stuff of nightmares as we block out the thorax and creepy spider head, making room for the 8 eyes we’ll be adding later.

Although I glued all the foam layers together in the morning, some layers and pieces were still shifting during the sculpt so we got the basic shape down using a hot foam cutter and serrated kitchen knife and will have to wait until the glue fully cures in order to continue. That being said, the thorax and head already have the correct shape and if we were covering it in fur then we’d be continuing with it as is. Instead, I want to try and sculpt it further and add some body texture, perhaps using spackle.
